Dear Parents of Biology, Life Science and Science II Students:
As a student enrolled in a first-time high school
Biology, Life Science or Science II class, your child is required
by the State of New Jersey to take the NJ Biology Competency Test
(NJBCT) this spring. All New Jersey public high school students,
regardless of grade level, who are enrolled in a first-time biology
course or its equivalent during the 2011-12 school year must take
the test. The test is designed to measure whether they have gained
the knowledge and skills identified in the Biology section of the
NJ Science Core Curriculum Content Standards.
This year’s test will be administered over two days,
May 15 and 16, 2012, with the two make-up days of May 17 and 18.
The test lasts approximately an hour and 45 minutes each day and
will be administered as part of the regular school day. It is important
your child be present to take the test on these dates.
The knowledge and skills tested on the NJBCT reflect
the science curriculum of the Pine Hill Public Schools and science
teachers make a concerted effort throughout the year to prepare our
students for the test.
We have attached Your Guide to the New Jersey Biology
Competency Test, May 2012 for your review. This document contains
common questions and answers about the test and should be informative
for both you and your child.
