NOTES FROM THE NURSE
IMMUNIZATION UPDATES * Fall 2010
· It is now strongly recommended that ALL children,
as well as adults, have an annual flu shot. This is available through
free county flu clinics or your family doctor. Check the newspaper
or the nurse’s office for the schedule.
· Whooping cough ( Pertussis) is now on the rise.
All students over 11years old and adults who have not had the TDAP
immunization in the past 10 years, should have this shot. Pertussis
can be fatal to infants under 6 months of age. They are required
to have four shots to become fully immunized.
· Due to the frequent incidents of meningitis,
it is recommended that all high school students have this immunization.
( menactra). This is required for most colleges.
· Please notify the nurse if your child has had
chicken pox or has received the vaccine .(varivax)
· Reminder - all 10th grade students must have a physical before January 2.
A sports physical or copy of a physical done in the past year is acceptable.
· Please discuss the immunization recommendations
with your family doctor.
